The punk band performed at the Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz on 8 and 9 July, moved from the Olympiastadion during its renovation.
How we reported this
German punk institution Die Toten Hosen returned to Munich for two open-air concerts in the Olympiapark on 8 and 9 July 2026, as part of a tour the Düsseldorf band has framed as its farewell run. The dates were among 25 shows the group has scheduled for 2026, and reportedly the last time the band will play the Bavarian capital.
Both Munich concerts were staged on the Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz, the square formerly known as the Coubertinplatz, rather than in the Olympiastadion. The stadium is closed in 2026 for renovation work, so organisers moved the shows to the open-air square, which has previously hosted acts including Coldplay.
The tour carries the title 'Trink aus! Wir müssen gehen' ('Drink up! We have to go'), a phrase the band has linked to being on the home straight of a career spanning more than four decades. Around frontman Campino, the group has said it wants to head out one more time with old and new songs, playing each evening as if it were its last.
Doors opened at 16:00 on both evenings, with the main performance beginning at 18:00. Support came from Donots and Pascow on 8 July, followed by Beatsteaks and The Stranglers on 9 July, giving the two nights distinct line-ups for fans who attended both.
For longtime followers, the shows were a chance to hear the biggest hits from a career of more than 40 years before the band steps back from large-scale touring. The Olympiapark setting, with its 1972 architecture and lawns, has long been one of Munich's signature summer concert locations.
The two evenings formed part of a packed run of summer events in the Olympiapark, which this year is also home to the Tollwood festival and the city's late-summer Sommerfestival. Visitors were advised to travel by public transport, with the U-Bahn and tram network serving the park directly.
The Munich shows came almost exactly four years after the band last played the city, at the Olympiastadion on 18 June 2022. The Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz has served as an alternative open-air venue while the stadium is out of action, having previously hosted acts such as Coldplay, giving fans a rare chance to see the group in a more compact outdoor setting than a full stadium show.
